Some of you may have seen this basic looking piece of sports equipment in magazines or online and by now a few of you may have attended exercise classes or used it as part of a personal training program outside of Egypt. But now those of you living in Cairo have the opportunity to use these as part of your workout!
ViPR stands for ‘’Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning’’. The simple looking weighted durable portable plastic tube with various hand holds boasts the ability to help you perform over 9000 exercises. It was inspired by farm workers who moved loads during their daily chores and were stronger than others in regular sporting competitions. The idea is to train in a ‘’3D’’ way rather than on one ‘’plane’’ the way the body was intended to move. It can be challenging and athletic yet also be adapted or ‘’regressed’’ for beginners and the less fit. There is a blend of ‘’lifting, shifting and twisting’’. Working with the ViPR allows movement to be loaded which ensures positive transfer to our lives. The wide variety of programming ideas means it’s potential is vast. For many it is a fun effective safe way to train – and you don’t have to set foot on a farm!
Movement is essential to training healthy bodies. The more we move in dynamic ways the better we feel. Adding weight (load) to the movement gives us double benefit. We learn to move more efficiently and become fitter and stronger. With the ViPR you can use the entire body for every movement performed. Every exercise becomes a core, strength and agility (cardiovascular) exercise. So training with the ViPR bridges the gap between movement and strength training. Full body movement is load enhanced. This means cardiovascular fitness and muscle building is targeted at the same time. Agility and strength is achieved by moving the body through a multitude of purposeful task orientated patterns. Balance, timing and co ordination is also improved and because of the athletic style multi directional workout it is a great calorie burner.
It is already used in training by major league hockey, football, basketball, rugby and baseball teams as well as Olympic athletes and even firefighting and police units. It can be integrated into many kinds of training programs and training protocols.
